Since 1871, the Detering’s have distributed quality goods to the fine people of Houston.
1871
IT BEGAN WITH A BROOM FACTORY
In 1871, Herman Eberhardt (H.E.) Detering, immigrated to the United States from Germany. In pursuit of the American dream, he opened a general store on Washington Avenue in Houston, as well as a concrete tile company and a broom factory.
1926
THE DETERING’S START SUPPLYING BRICK
Following in the entrepreneurial footsteps of his father, Carl Detering opened The Detering Company in 1926 with his brother Herman. In its earliest days, the company primarily sold brick that helped to build the great city of Houston. After World War II, the brothers continued selling essential construction supplies to builders, contributing heavily to one of Houston’s greatest construction eras.
1986
CARL JR.BECOMES COMPANY PRESIDENT
Carl Detering proudly passed the baton to his son, Carl Detering Jr., who took on the role as president of the company.
2008
SOUTH TEXAS BRICK & STONE IS ESTABLISHED
STB&S was founded by three seasoned brick suppliers and friends - Damian Law, Trey Magee, and Ralph Sauer.
2014
The detering family buys South Texas brick & Stone
Carl “Carlos” Detering III joined STB&S as managing partner.

The STB&S team continue to be a leading supplier of masonry products in Houston and have expanded to open showrooms in Austin, San Antonio, and service their surrounding areas.
